Transcript:

Today we are going to discuss why there are five adjectives that are essential to your success in building a loyal following as an online entrepreneur.

One more tip for building loyal followers

This is the tip I promised you in the last episode. In episode #9, we talked about my number one tip for building a loyal following and how to delight your customers. This is my second number one tip. These are both so close and so important in building that following of people who want to follow you, specifically.

Here’s the tip:

We act based on what we feel.

If you were to talk to any life coach or therapist, they’re going to tell you that our feelings come from our thoughts, and then based on how we feel, we act, right? If I feel angry, I’m thinking that someone did something to me intentionally to be cruel and rude, then I am going to feel angry and I’m going to act angry.

I want you to think about how this applies to your business. Can you introduce a thought to your audience that creates a feeling that makes them want to follow you? Sometimes these feelings can be negative, right? The feeling of FOMO, fear of missing out, makes us jump into things and do things that sometimes we haven’t really thought through. That feeling makes us act, and this can be an important piece of your online strategy as long as it is done honestly.

We can create the fear of missing out on a sales page because we truly know that this will be helpful for someone and that it is a good investment for them. And that we understand what it feels like to be on the other side of the understanding they’re going to gain through that investment and we know it will help them and benefit them.

That is very different than creating a feeling of FOMO because we simply want money. We simply want people to buy our course, and we want the money. And we don’t truly care about them. So this is definitely a tactic to be used with caution. And I suggest you start somewhere else. I suggest you not start by using things like FOMO on a sales page.

I suggest the place you start is by creating positive emotions in people every single time they interact with you. This is going to make you magnetic.  They may not even be able to put their finger on why they want to be around you and follow you.

5 ways you want people to feel

Come up with a list of five adjectives, five ways you want to make people feel when they interact with you. I’m going to share mine with you.

#1 – My first one is optimistic. I want people to feel optimistic every single time they interact with me. When somebody interacts with me online, I don’t want blind optimism. I don’t want to just convince them they should do something just because I said so. I truly want to get down deep inside them and help them to feel like, “Oh my goodness, I have the tools now to do something I’ve always wanted to do, and I have hope and optimism in the future that this truly is possible.”

#2 – Number two, I want people to feel empowered. And these first two adjectives kind of go hand in hand, but the optimism part, I want to come more from me and the things I’m teaching. And this empowerment and confidence, I want to come because of the community that they get surrounded by when they join The Goodness Squad because other women empower them. Other women who are really like them, who are right there in the trenches with them building a business for the first time, completely uncertain that it’s going to work. And somebody else that’s in that same space gives them a shout out or some encouragement and they feel empowered to take that next step.

#3 – Number three, I want people who follow me to feel inspired. I want to tell the stories of other women. Who have been where they are and who have come out on the other side a little bit better, who have built a successful business, who are just a few steps ahead of them, and I want them to feel inspired by that.

I also want to inspire them through quotes and scriptures. I want to very carefully, because this is a sacred thing, but I want to find scriptures and quotes from prophets that I feel inspired to use to help them feel inspired and gain confidence and empowerment that they are on the right path, that they are doing God’s will.

#4 – Number four, I want them to feel motivated. I want to make things seem like they are doable. I want to take big things and break them down into small pieces so that they feel motivated, that they can do this.

#5 – And last, I want them to feel relief.  I want to take some of that burden that’s on their shoulders of, “Oh my gosh, I have to learn so much to be successful.” I want to take some of that off and have them feel relieved and I want them to feel understood.

I know that sometimes I talk to my friends who are not online entrepreneurs, and I feel this feeling that they don’t get it. They don’t understand this passion and this drive. I want them to find a place where they feel understood. Where they feel like they’re not alone, where they feel normal to be excited about this, and also normal to be completely overwhelmed by it.

So those are my five adjectives.

  • Optimistic.
  • Empowered.
  • Inspired.
  • Motivated.
  • Relieved.

Every time I write a blog post or create a podcast episode or a social media post, I am thinking through how could I make them feel at least one of those five things, through what I’m doing right now.

Your assignment today is to come up with five adjectives of your own. What are five ways that you want people to feel? Five positive adjectives. I am going to leave you a link to a list of positive adjectives I’ve found on a website called Happy and Authentic. I honestly don’t know a lot about this website, but I loved this list.

It really helped me think through how I want to make people feel when they interact with me. Because, when they feel those positive emotions, they’re going to keep coming back. And that means two things:

  1. Number one, it means my business will be more successful.
  2. Number two, it means that those women will grow and change.

For me, it means their businesses will be more successful. But for you, what will it mean for these women?  What will it mean for the people that you are serving? What change will they have in their lives if they continue to follow you?
